Purpose
The Data Center Technician is responsible for the day-to-day hands-on operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical data center infrastructure. The role ensures continuous availability of IT and facility systems by supporting electrical, mechanical, and network-related hardware in a 24/7 mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
Perform routine operation and monitoring of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, and environmental systems.
Support installation, rack-and-stack, cabling, and decommissioning of IT equipment (servers, network devices, storage).
Conduct first-level troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and network infrastructure issues.
Perform preventive maintenance checks and assist engineers during corrective maintenance activities.
Monitor alarms and alerts from BMS/DCIM systems and escalate incidents as required.
Carry out physical inspections of UPS, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, generators, and other critical systems.
Ensure proper cable management, labeling, and documentation of all infrastructure changes.
Support capacity management activities such as power, space, and cooling allocation tracking.
Follow strict change management procedures including MOPs (Method of Procedure) and SOPs.
Assist during audits, compliance checks, and safety inspections.
Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and escalation during outages or critical events.
Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure a safe working environment in the data hall and plant areas.
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, or IT-related field.
At least 1–5 years of experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or facilities maintenance.
Basic understanding of electrical systems (UPS, PDU, generators) and cooling systems.
Familiarity with server hardware, networking equipment, and structured cabling.
Knowledge of BMS/DCIM tools is an advantage.
Ability to follow SOPs, safety procedures, and change management processes strictly.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in 24/7 shift environments.
Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
