Role Purpose

The Data Centre Engineer Operate as the Single Point of Contact for all Data Centre & IT Services within the Data Centre to provide front line support in centralized monitoring, incident reporting, event management and problem resolution for all critical Data Centre services.

The primary goal of this position is to operate, maintain, and monitor system processes and hardware peripheral devices through system consoles(s) to ensure the readiness of network, security, data storage, email, server clusters and other enterprise IT resources.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Data Centre Manager to maintain stable IT Operations Control activities in Network Operations Centre by applying ISO27001 best-practice

• Diagnose and resolve IT operations failures if possible or provide workaround base on problem knowledge base.

• Manage routine operational activities and report on the status of performance.

• Manage various classes of events and reported incidents to track its status and follow up with necessary escalation procedures and closure.

• Manage and process DC clearance for staffs, visitors, customers and vendors to ensure only authorize personal allow into DC.

• Ensure security within critical infrastructure locations such as MDF & MMR rooms, cargo lifts, Staging Room, Electrical Switch Room, CRAC room and Data Centre Hall to prevent unauthorized access and escort servicing vendors to their respective areas.

• Working closely with Facility Management (FM) to review facility equipment performance, alarm fault escalation for operations improvement.

• Assist in network and cabling for server and infrastructure component installation / removal within the Data Centre.

• Perform inspection and appropriate cleaning in Data Centre if dust accumulation in areas such as under raised floor, in DC, top of racks, equipment, service corridor, facility rooms, etc.

• Perform security monitoring for computer misuse and possible hacking activities and escalate security incidents to other research institutes for further actions.

• Supervise vendor for Data Communication equipment/cable placement, installation, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting in accordance with Data Centre policies and standards.

• Perform any other tasks or duties assigned by Data Centre Manager.  

 Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in IT Support, Facilities Management, Engineering, or an equivalent field.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in a mission-critical, 24/7 operational environment.

• Familiarity with data center operations and infrastructure.

• Strong problem-solving skills with solid operational knowledge and analytical ability.

• Good communication skills and a strong team player.
